Bass Player Wanted
I posted this one to craigslist today half-jokingly. BJ kept on about me posting to their musician community page as he won’t go there because he’s afraid of becoming a dirty hippie by merely typing the URL. Some old boy was severely nonplussed by what I thought was a damn funny bass ad. His response read, “Wow, you guys are too clever. I mean, cheese wheels! WOW! How witty. Man, I really hope you guys find that perfect bass player who learned how to play yesterday and isn’t too fat for your MySpace-savvy deluded image. Grow up.” C’mon, cheese wheels are funny. What else ships in wheel form? Am I wrong?
* Oh, and for the record, the “NO FATTIES” thing in my ad was a reference to some weird thing that David Cross used to put at the end of every fake classified ad on Mr. Show. I didn’t realize how offensive that was in pseudo real life.
Reddit > Digg > Slashdot
I like Reddit. It’s a great news aggregation site and infinitely better than Digg or Slashdot. Most of the stuff that filters to the top on Reddit is very interesting and a lot different than what’s being posted to the other sites. Slashdot is about two weeks behind the user moderated aggregators and chronically posts duplicate stories. Digg seems to be a bunch of former-TechTV-watching wannabe script kiddies posting a million stories about poorly thought-out AJAX apps and other mostly useless crap. Unfortunately, as with everything else cool on the web, the k-lug folks or this one usually strike first. Julius sent me the ‘Wizard of Winter’ thing about a month before any of the aggregators found it, but he’s about ten times cooler than I’ll ever be in my entire life. If it wasn’t for Julius, #klug, Reddit, and these guys, I’d be living in the informational and cultural dark ages.
DCS1000
BJ is constantly sending me inflammatory stuff in an attempt to get DCS1000 to care about the crazy stuff that he writes. We shared this witty exchange about it today after one of his spells.
14:41 <mitya000> i should stop that 14:41 <hoyhoy> yeah, you think? 14:41 <hoyhoy> do you ever wonder why those black vans are parked outside of your apartment? 14:42 <hoyhoy> it's fun to pretend that someone cares about something that you do though. 14:42 <mitya000> some times they give me ice cream 14:42 <mitya000> and then i black out for an hour and can't remember my name 14:42 <hoyhoy> THOSE VANS ARE WHITE! 14:42 <hoyhoy> and play "The Entertainer" 14:42 <mitya000> white, black, whatever 14:42 <hoyhoy> you're cofusing everything again. 14:42 <mitya000> you should be more respectful of diversity
The Smart Rabits Have Become Sentient
It’s all fun and games until your Aibo kills your Nabaztag. If I had infinite money, I would construct an Army of Darkness of thousands of Aibos and Nabaztags to do my bidding under the evil sway a Lisp program that uses a Markov Chain Model of Genetic Algorithms. You have to be careful though because robots will use any information available to predict your words. If you are looking at the sky, they expect to hear about the weather. If you look angry, they may expect cursing. If you are on your knees with tears streaming down your face, they may expect you to keep begging for your life to be spared. Always remember to adopt a full-body poker face to prevent the Nabaztags and Aibos from being able to interpret your actions.
Modesto Linkin’ Bonanza
Bumper is taking an innovative approach to dealing with hotlinkers by updating a couple of images grokked by the Modesto Junior College Criminal Justice Page. I’ve petitioned him to have Sterrance/Rendoggle Day, and I think he’s going to do it given enough pressure from the blogging community.
Bash.org
Today is the best day of my life. I’m now quoted in bash.org:
Upgrading Cygwin to AIX
BSE came up with a great hint on _upgrading_ cygwin to AIX. Just do this:
ln -fs /cygdrive/c/bin/bash ksh
If you laugh at this you are a geek.
