Breaking the Law!

Posted on April 30, 2003

Well, I had my second encounter with Austin Police Department in two weeks. On April 17th, I managed to get a little ticket for going 56 in 35 on Duval on the way to work.
Then, tonight, two uniformed Austin Police officers paid me a friendly visit to put the kibosh on my soireé with Barton and Wayne from M42Music.
At least I didn’t get cited for violating a noise ordinance tonight like I did back in 1998 whilst I was in Athens, Ohio playing with a band called TimeChange.

I’m easily amused. So, today I managed to get my SonyEricsson T68 phone to talk to my IB Thinkpad T20 via Infrared.

Megabytes

Posted on April 28, 2003

Why is it hard for people to know how to abbreviate megabytes? The SI standard is MB, but continually people insist on using Mb (megabits), mB (millibytes), and mb (millibits) to mean MB or 1,000,000 bytes. In addition, don’t confuse MB with MiB which corresponds to 2^20 or 1048576 bytes. Memory is typically measured in MiB while hard disk drives are measured in MB.

T68i Downloading mail from a Redhat 7.1 POP3 Server.

Posted on April 20, 2003

I managed to get my T68i to download my mail from my Redhat 7.1 POP3 Server hosted on my cable modem. The cool thing is, I have spamassassin running on there, and the phone only downloads the non-spam messages.

Why?

Why do people insist on doing these types of things to their pets?

SBC “We’re Customer Driven”

Posted on April 17, 2003

I’ve been on hold for like 45 minutes with SBC trying to disconnect my landline as I’m getting a cell phone. Good lord, the myriad of menus and disconnect options you have to go through is amazing.
