Cheap CF Card
Ever since I got my digital camera, I’m always checking the price of CF cards. I got a 256 MB one from Circuit City for $75 in December. Unfortunately, I just saw a 512 MB card for $132.
8200 Uniques
Involution.com was visited by over 8200 unique visitors for the month of January which is nearly double the 4700 visitors from December 2002.
Adaware
Adaware 6.0 seems to be available today if you’re willing to pay for it.
Spam Filters
I saw this article that rates the various spam filters floating around. I’m still very happy with Spamassassin and Razor though.
4.44 GHz
Hardocp managed to get a 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 up to 4.440 GHz using two vapochills and a waterblock.
Infoweek Disinformation
Fred Langa at Infoweek cobbled together some article which basically says, Linux is just as insecure as Windows. OK, that might be true in some instances, but I wouldn’t dare put a Windows machine wide open on the Interweb. Does Windows have stateful kernel modules that allow you to selectively filter traffic, limit the QoS of port scans, and selectively dump alerts to a log file? No it doesn’t. Until that happens Windows is more insecure than Linux. The subtle point that Mr. Langa misses is that Linux (or *BSD for that matter) can be made much more secure than a Windows. Get on the Cluetrain Freddy-boy. Your beancounter statistics are worthless…
Hemispheric Monitor
Well it’s only two megapixel, but having a hemispheric monitor would be seriously cool.
SQL Server Worm
It’s interesting to me that this new MS SQL Server worm is causing so many problems. Years ago, the book Hacking Exposed warned that the problems with SQL server were often overlooked because IIS-flaws were easier to exploit.
AMD Zealots
It seems my post about the AMD 3000+ annoyed some Australian bloke a little. He wrote to me some long diatribe that contained the following intellectual gems: “Higher clock speed is is a negative rather than positive.”, and “Next we have hyperthreading - this is interelated to the clock speed thing.” Before you go around making wild claims about microprocessors, please put down the Foster’s, and read this several times for enlightenment.
Wheeeeeeh!!!
Apparently, archive.org is making an archive of live concerts of various bands that allow taping! The site is here.
