From Rochester to Dayton
I just fininished a grueling 12 hour drive from Rochester, MN to Miamisburgh, OH. Chicago traffic was crazy, then the 65 South ramp was closed off of I-90 in Gary, Indiana forcing me to end-up in some podunk town on a detour. Then the I-465 South ramp to I-70 East was closed requiring me to go to downtown Indianapolis. I’m safe and sound in Ohio now though.

11/11/1998 Slashdot Posting
I found this very amusing: a posting from Slashdot on 11/11/1998:
“So IBM announces a 25 gig hard drive… does the world need this yet? Unless this is in a RAID, would you really want to trust 25 gigs on a single drive? What would you use this for? 400+ hours of MP3s comes to mind…”
Four years later, 160 GB are available, IBM no longer makes hard drives, and entry-level computers ship with 40 GB drives.
HP Scanjet 4200Cse PrecisionScan LT Problems with Windows 2000
I was trying to get my HP scanner to work with Windows 2000 the other day, and was having a bit trouble with their PrecisionScan LT software. I tried everything from new drivers to using every USB port on my box. Nothing worked. Then, I went to Google Groups and did a search. Someone suggested removing any my computer links (or extra control panel links) from the Start Menu. Once I did that it worked perfectly. How in the world can having a shortcut on your Start Menu prevent scanning software from working? Anyone? Bueller?

Samsung RDRAM Roadmap
I found an interesting pdf presentation of Samsung’s RDRAM roadmap. I’m still waiting on PC1200 and to see some benchmarks on reasonably-clocked AMD’s Hammer chips before I put together a new PC.
