New Linux Kernel Prepatch
Marcelo just released 2.4.19-pre9 after a record 26 days without an update. 2.4 must truly be stable now..
Mistakes
The editorial staff at LNG informed me of a couple of front page mistakes that I had. A bad link, and a misspelled title. These are fixed now. Thanks Mulekick.
Browser Wars 2.0
There’s has been a lot uproar recently about the browser wars starting up again. I think for the most part, it’s bunk, but it has been my dream to not have to use Internet Explorer for sometime now.
Pentium III faster than Pentium4?
Ever since the introduction of the P4, there have been lots of critics of the architecture because of its large pipeline and reliance on Rambus memory for performance. Apparently, even the PIII Xeons outperform the newer P4 Xeons according to troublemaker Mike Magee. Personally, I think the PIII are great chips, and I’d even consider building a Tualatin PIII-based box as an upgrade to my Coppermine-based PIII b0xen.
Google Labs
Google Labs released some awesome new interfaces to the search engine. I personally like the keyboard-only interface.
SmartFTP
I was reading through theinquirer.net forums and I came across a thread about freeware ftp windows clients. A few people suggested that SmartFTP written by Thanks to Mathias Berchtold and Mike Walter was the way to go. I really think SmartFTP is a solid ftp client that rivals FlashFXP and CuteFTP in terms of functionality and usability. Also, SmartFTP has got this whiz-bang bandwidth monitor chart that updates in real-time, and a queue. I think next to Ad-aware, this is my second-favorite freeware.
