RSA-576 Factoring
I’ve been trying to implement a decent RSA-576 factoring client. I’ve uploaded my first attempt at writing a distributed client. This is just a skeleton of a full featured distributed client right now. You can download it here. You have to manually change the starting and ending exponents and run the client on different machines in order to get the distributed effect though, and I don’t have a server written yet to monitor the results (although it will send an email if it finds something interesting!).
Big Puzzle
| Monza bought this really neat puzzle in Hong Kong that we just got done putting together. Here’s a scan of the box. It’s perty! |
New Search Engines
I’ve found a couple of new search engines that
are really great. First, teoma.com is a really useful search engine. Most searches there yield more useful results than google.
Less important are: vivismo.com,
wisenut,
and ilor.cor.
These are still worth a look.
RSA Search For Primes
Monza and I are attempting the RSA-576 challenge. I’m running a program using the lenstra algorithm on my Linux box in a futile attempt to factor this number:

Content Display & Version Updates
I fixed a couple of problems with my content display php routine, and updated my version number.
Involution.com Using MySQL
I added a news submission form and ported the entire front page news section over a mysql database.
Desktop X / Banners / Linux 2.4.7
I’ve been playing around with this DesktopX program that
allows you to load and create themes for Windows. I added some screen shots of a couple of desktops that I loaded.
Also, I added a page archiving banners of old.
The 2.4.7 linux kernel has been released. I now have it up and running on my firewall.
Screen Shots / Quotes / Linux 2.4.7pre6
I updated the quotes page with a Matt Mock original, and a Administrator original.
In addition, I added another Windows XP screenshot along with a KDE 2.2 Beta 1 shot on my
2.4.7-pre6 linux kernel box.
WinXP RC 1 / Linux 2.4.7pre3
MS GameVoice / Lernout & Hauspie Voice Recognition / 1 GHz Athlon / 2.4.6 Kernel
I’ve been experimenting around with this LH Speech Recognition Package that ships with Office XP. I was using
some cheap condenser microphone that came with my sound card that wasn’t working too well. I recently aquired
a Microsoft GameVoice Headset that was a huge improvement. The VoiceCommand & Dictation stuff works really well
You can say, “File… Open”, and Office does what you’d expect. It appears that you can’t use VoiceCommands
on arbitrary applications. I had hoped that I could use it with Windows Emacs or Windows Jed…
I just assembled a PC for a friend at IBM. This was a great deal.
Asus A7V KT133A / 1 GHz Athlon / Athlon Approved HSF / 384 MB PC133 SDRAM
20 GB HD / Aopen Soundcard / Diamond V.90 Modem / 10/100 BT Linksys
Enlight MidTower / 300 Watt PSU / Sony 52x CDROM / Altec Lansing Speakers
Total Cost: $600!
I just got the 2.4.6 Linux kernel up and running.
